How is CAREC Financed?

CAREC receives funds from several sources: the Pan American Health Organization, the member countries (according to a mutually agreed formula), and external agencies (research grants and contracts). In addition, some cost recovery is achieved from laboratory, printing and other services.

External agencies (currently providing about 50% of the annual budget) deserve special acknowledgement, these include the following:

British Dept. for International Development (DFID)
Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)
International Development Research Centre (IDRC)
United States National Cancer Institute (NCI)
German Technical Cooperation (GTZ)
French Technical Cooperation (FTC)
The Netherlands Leprosy Relief Association (NSL)
European Union
The World Bank
Inter American Development Bank

CAREC also maintains collaborative close links with CDC (US), LCDC (Canada) and WRAIR (US).
