The Caribbean faces the worst epidemic of chronic, non-communicable diseases (CNCD) (heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory disease) in the Americas, causing much preventable loss of life, lost productivity and spiraling health care costs. In response to this alarming fact, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government held a Regional Summit on CNCD on September 15, 2007 in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
